Benefits of Having a Merchant Account

In the United States, in the year 2002, there were 617 million credit cards issued to cardholders. Credit card purchases totaled nearly $1.2 trillion. Visa card purchases were 42.36%, MasterCard 31.96%, American Express 19.51%, Discover 6.13%, and Diners Club 0.71%. Nearly 5.2 million U.S. merchants accepted credit cards. A merchant can only benefit from over $1 trillion in U.S. annual credit card purchases. Consumers tend to spend more per purchase when they’re not constrained by cash, and more frequently. This leads to increased sales and profits for the merchant. Generally, business volume tends to increase for a merchant by as much as 30% once credit cards are accepted as an alternative form of payment.
